All health care professionals who perform physical examinations and issue medical certificates for CMV drivers will be required to complete accredited certification training and pass an examination, which is why Yakima Worker Care is proud to offer a home study course to help you prepare for the NRCME Commercial Driver Medical Examiners Test.

This course is 90% home study, which allows you start the course at any time and to work on your own schedule. In addition to the home study, participants will complete a self-assessment quiz and a single mandatory telephone conference.

Learning objectives include:

•  Understand the role of FMCSA and of the Medical Examiner

•  Understand the CMV driver’s responsibilities and work environment

•  Obtain and document the CMV driver’s medical history

•  Understand the process of performing CMV driver medical exams

•  Understand when to request further diagnostic tests and consults

•  Understand appropriate driver certification outcome/certificate length

•  Understand FMC SA reporting requirements

Following completion of the training and course evaluation form, participants will receive the certification required to take the NRCME examination.

This ME training course conforms to FMCSA’s training curriculum modules and topics on regulations and guidelines for conducting CMV driver medical examinations. FMCSA regulations and guidelines are reviewed regularly, and the training is updated as required.

A graduate from the University of Louisville School of Medicine in June, 1970, Dr. Palmatier has practiced emergency medicine for over 28 years, and full-time occupational medicine for more than 13 years. He has performed hundreds of DOT medical examinations and is certified by NRCME as a DOT medical examiner.


Cari received her Master of Science in Nursing (FNP) December, 2009 from Gonzaga University. She graduated from Washington State University in May, 1999 with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She has performed hundreds of DOT medical examinations and is participating in this course with the intent of sitting for the NRCME commercial driver medical examiner test as a pathway to certification by NRCME.
